Do you need to understand Generation X & Y employees better?
Tapping into their potential can take your business to another level

Are your staff passengers or participants in your business success? Research has shown that more than fifty percent of the workforce is South Africa is disengaged from their jobs.

They work not because they want to but because they have to. The challenge for management is to find ways to engage staff so that it’s more than just a job or money. When staff feels integral to a business they find it harder to leave. You’ll also get greater productivity and success of the organisation.

THE GENERATION GAP

The Generation Gap between the Boomer generation, usually in management positions, and the youth represented by Generation X and Y has become far more pronounced because the world is changing at lightning speed.

Younger staff members can help management stay relevant and competitive in this fast-changing world. Business strategies need to adapt to take advantage of technology and new ideas. If management are out of touch with their staff, then they are out of touch with the market of the future.

CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER

Michele Alexander is a trained facilitator in “Conversations That Matter”. This promotes collaborative dialogue around important issues in your business. It is useful for generating input, sharing knowledge, stimulating innovative thinking and exploring possible actions.

“Conversations that Matter” is a catalyst that creates a safe environment where all levels of staff in business can share and communicate. People feel more engaged when they feel their own voice is being heard. When people feel free to be themselves, they do their most creative thinking, speaking and listening.

Our Aim Is To Create:

  1. Collaborative Dialogue: Talk must be two-way, mutual, shared, with the emphasis on active listening
  2. Active Engagement: No person leads, everyone participates and commits to interacting with each other.
  3. Constructive possibilities for Action: Each participant agrees upon a practical, productive way forward.

How Do We Add Value:

  1. Increase engagement of staff in the business
  2. Impart skills through informal peer and senior staff coaching
  3. Your best strategies can come from your staff
  4. Listening to staff can take them from being passengers to participants
  5. Staff who feel involved also feel motivated
  6. Motivated staff are more productive
  7. Increased productivity leads to increased profitability

METHODOLOGY:

The workshop’s purpose is to promote a culture of connection, engagement and build better understanding. In order to avoid fearful or defensive reactions, the ground rules and expectations are very clearly set up.

The total number of participants can be between 12 and 30. But staff will interact in small groups of 4 to 5, as it is easier to build connections in smaller groups. Conversations can be held across departments so that interactions are not restricted to one hierarchy. The groups will share their ideas with everyone and rotate to form new groups.

We encourage that a minimum of three Conversations take place to allow for mutual trust and a deeper level of communication to grow. A record is kept of the ideas generated by each Conversation as feedback to management and staff. Ideally the concept will be adopted as an ongoing communication tool.

VENUE AND TIME:

Each “Conversation that Matters” will last a maximum of two hours. The venue will be decided in conjunction with the client.
